Welcome back heroes! Today I have the pleasure of informing you all that book 2 Famine is officially done. Well, done being written at least. It is edited and now with the Alpha and proof readers for their illustrious feedback. As soon as that is done, the manuscript will be formatted and then uploaded to the various sites for purchase. The cover is also in its final phases and the current draft has been posted on the main page of my website. I bet all three of my fans are just as excited as I am.
Now, that being said, I am talking to some people about how to do better with launching book 2. It is safe to say that Book 1 was not a roaring success. It wasn't a complete failure, but it wasn't really a success either. In fact, if you follow me at all, you would know that book 1 doesn't even come up when you do a search of my name on Amazon. That signifies that the book has not sold in quite a while. After checking my metrics on KDP I can attest to that fact.
Indie publishing is not an easy thing. Like most writers who take their first steps into the industry, I thought it was simply a matter of put your book out their and watch the fans come rolling in. Yeah, that worked about as well as my online dating profile. I'm currently not remarried. Though I do have a lady I am talking to, so maybe my online profile has worked better than my marketing for book 1.
All in all, I came nowhere near making my money back on the first book. I am not really upset about that since I kind of understood that it would be where I learn, and boy did I learn. I learned that you cannot trust everyone who is selling you their marketing services, I learned books definitely don't sell themselves, I learned that the literary industry is constantly changing and that what worked last year won't necessarily work this year, and I learned that the indie author community is filled with awesome people who are supportive and helpful. So some good things and some bad things. I don't want to repeat the same mistakes I made with Death, so I have been reaching out to other authors and watching about a million YouTube videos a day on everything from marketing to writing faster.
With all that said, I just want to thank those of you who are still excited about reading my books. I know I am not a fast writer, though much faster than George R R Martin. Seriously man, finish GOT and make the ending better then the HBO series. Now that this milestone in my writing career has been reached, my next goal is to get to one book a year. I am certain that is a realistic next goal and I am excited to see if I can finish book 3 by the end of the year.
Anyway, thanks for hanging in there with me. Not only to my few fans, but my friends and family as well. You guys are all awesome and I appreciate you. I also want to thank the Indie writing community. You all know who you are and I couldn't have got this far without you guys. Thanks again for being the awesome people you are.
